Once known as the Radicable Versatile, Mohamed Kanu also known as Masta Beetus Tex has today 7th September 2018 been laid to rest at the Kissy Mess Mess Cemetery, Freetown, in the presence of friends and family, and a cross section of Salone entertainers  - DJs, Musicians, film makers, comedians, MCs, politicians, journalists, and a lot more. Until his death on  the 16th August 2018, Beetus was one of Sierra Leone's best MCs and DJs who has earned his name and landmark in the entertainment industry from various media and entertainment institutions in Sierra Leone. The late MC went into the cold at the UMC hospital shortly after an attack.

A day before his death, a senior DJ (DJ Kalloxx) announced his illness on social media, soliciting supports from colleague entertainers to rescue the late man. The support wasn't forthcoming and he was announced dead the following day. His death report was a shock among entertainers, especially after recently loosing young and dynamic acts in similar circumstances.

Beetus was today churched at the Latter Days Saint in Kissy. A mammoth crowd turnout to pay their last respect to the legend, weeping and wailing. Scenes of low mourners were quite visible.

The star studded funeral brought together the likes of Jawu Kateh, Famous, Pilot CPO, DJ Preso, Colabo, K Man, DJ Kalloxx, Vivky Dave, Mohamed Janneh, General Maj, Sara D Great, Ambassador Bash, K Flash, Jamal, Master Ripo, Foyoh, Steady Bongo, Alie Conteh, DJ Enzo, etc.

The Entertainment Director of Citizens Radio, Ibrahim Kalokoh aka DJ Kalloxx takes us through the life of Beetus. He describes him as someone who had passion for what he was doing, which was to promote Salone music. "I have never seen him playing foreign music. He dedicated his time to play Salone music 100%", Kalloxx tells this media.

Beetus Tex started his DJ career at Citizens Radio some 15 years ago as the Entertainment Director. After a brawl, he left and managed the then Porsh Nightclub now Salone Bar, before he went and headed the entertainment department of ABC Television. Beetus left ABC Television after it had defunct and started working at Eagle Radio briefly. When Tunde Mccarthy returned back to Sierra Leone, Masta Beetus Tex persuaded him to open a radio station, which brought about the establishment of Tumac Radio in the East of Freetown. He was made the station manager. Beetus left Tumac Radio and started working for the AYV radio and TV at its embryonic stage, where he excelled until he was unceremoniously expunged from the institution for some allegations against him.

"If not for any other reason, Beetus can be remembered for the passion and energy he had for promoting Sierra Leone music," says Muctar Tejan Cole aka T.J Cole the Mega Don. T.J Cole explains the good working relationship he had with Beetus at AYV when they both worked for that institution. He further describes him as 'a mixer' who had the skills to organise anything.

Cole also expresses fear on how the entertainment industry has neglected and rejected the late Beetus Tex. "When we needed his support he was there for us, but when he was down we shunned him," he stated. "These are some of the reasons that led to his death."

"We live in an industry that is fragmented and segmented. This undermines our confidence as entertainers" - T. J Cole.

Mr. Cole refers to Beetus as one of the pillars for AYV's successes. According to him, Beetus had a fantastic relationship with everyone at AYV, including the late Moseray Fadika, when they were at Coffee Nicol House.

His obsession was also the idea of paying tributes and respects to the death rather than the living. This was in connection with the amount of people who attended the funeral and burial of Beetus Tex.

A popular TV presenter, Mohamed Bashiru Sanusi otherwise known as Ambassador Bash of Star TV also lamented on Beetus' love and passion for promoting Salone music. "His passion for Salone music was comparable to none."

As part of their solidarity and support, the entertainment industry organised a memorial football match on the 5th September 2018 at the Approved School field. Proceeds of the match were handed over to the bereaved family.

Beetus can be remembered for his Boogie Down Production program at Citizens radio and his Salone music program at AYV radio. As an MC, he can be remembered for the trophies he won for the East, at the East vs West music competitions. He was a fighter and a champion. He can also be remembered for his Trademark suits and dreadlocks.

Till we meet again, so lied him poor in the casket. Adieu Beetus!
